Each year CSG review all accidents and near misses reported the previous year.  This is to try and identify any trends and any training requirements.

In 2019, there was a marked increase in the number of near misses reported which is positive.  By noticing and reporting near misses, our staff are reducing the chance of accidents occurring.

Some examples of near misses are:

  • mopping without using wet floor signs
  • stacking cleaning products too high in the cleaning cupboards
  • loose carpet tiles
  • not enough light when accessing external skips

Of the accidents that have been reported during 2019, these included:

  • cut finger on broken toilet cistern
  • slipped on wet floor
  • caught hand on door catch

CSG are proud to say that our staff are encouraged to report near misses.  It is explained in our induction training that staff are to report all accidents and incidents immediately and we have a Tool Box Talk to support this.

As office cleaners, CSG are aware that our tasks are low risk but we take every task seriously in terms of Health and Safety:

  • Risk Assessments and Method Statements for each task
  • Practical training provided to all staff
  • Refresher training provided to all staff
  • Encourage the reporting of all accidents and near misses
  • Correct PPE provided as per contract requirements
  • COSHH awareness for all chemicals used
  • Visual checks before use of vacuums

This list above is not exhaustive but gives an overview of how seriously CSG take the health and safety of their staff and customers.

As a result of the review, it has been identified that CSG require to retrain staff on slips, trips and falls and we have a training document to cover this TBT Slips Trips Falls R3

We are looking forward to 2020 being a year of increased near miss reporting and lower accident reports.
